Saddlebrooke Heating, Cooling & Home Tech Services

Hi, I’m Tony Dopp — a semi-retired, licensed Arizona heating and air conditioning contractor serving SaddleBrooke and the surrounding area. My wife Jill and I owned and operated Colorado Gold Heating & Air Conditioning in the Denver area. We sold our business and moved to Saddelbrooke in 2021. Jill is a Nutritionist and Health Coach (you can learn more about her by clicking on her link at the top of this page) and I work part-time doing service and repair on heating and cooling systems and some smart home technologies I’ve learned over the years. I’ve always loved technology, fixing things, and finding smart solutions that make life at home easier and more comfortable.

Below are some of the more popular services I offer and things I have implemented in our home that I think are worth sharing, many of which you can do yourself.

I run a one-man operation, which means you’ll always get personal, reliable service. I don’t take shortcuts — I treat every job as if I were doing it for my own home.

Services I Offer:

  • Heating & Air Conditioning Service & Repair

  • System Inspections & Certifications

  • Mini-Split Installation

  • In-Home Dust Elimination & Air Purification

  • Smart Home Technologies

I provide honest, affordable service for heating and air-conditioning systems in and around SaddleBrooke. I don’t sell new systems, so you can trust my advice without worrying about a sales pitch.

Heating & Cooling Inspection Service for Home Buyers and Sellers

Buying or selling a home? Make sure the heating and cooling system will pass inspection and operate safely. I’ve provided this service for hundreds of realtors, home buyers, and sellers.

During the inspection, I check that your system meets manufacturer’s specifications, including:

  • Proper heat rise and cooling temperature (delta)

  • Carbon monoxide testing for safety

  • Confirmation that all supply vents are working (catching common duct disconnections)

  • Verification that mechanical components run correctly

You’ll receive a written inspection certification showing the system’s condition at the time of inspection, with any issues clearly documented.

Understand and Care for Your Heating & Cooling System

Most homeowners know little about how their HVAC system really works. I can walk you through yours and share best practices to keep it running efficiently and reliably.

Common questions I help answer include:

  • Which air filters to use and how often to replace them

  • Whether to run the blower continuously or leave it on “auto”

  • The best thermostat settings and how to create energy-saving schedules

Many homes in our area have filters in both the ceiling and at the furnace blower. That double filtering can actually strain the system and shorten its life. In my own home, I removed the ceiling filters and keep a single filter at the furnace—it’s easier and less expensive.

Let me give you the same peace of mind. Call 520-225-0060 or message me to schedule a system walk-through or consultation.

Get a Trusted Second Opinion Before Replacing Your System

Recently a golfing friend called me while I was out of town. His air conditioner had frozen during a 100-degree heatwave, and two contractors told him his 15-year-old system needed full replacement—quotes ran from about $8,500 to $15,000.

When I returned, I inspected the unit myself. I discovered the power had been disconnected so it couldn’t run, and all it really needed was just a couple of pounds of refrigerant. After a quick recharge, the system cooled perfectly and continues to do so.

I don’t believe age alone means a system is “on its last leg.” A newer system might be a bit more efficient, but the energy savings often don’t offset the huge upfront cost.

If you’re facing a big replacement quote, let me give you a second opinion—it could save you thousands.

Indoor Dust Elimination & Air Purification

Everyone in our area knows how relentless the dust can be. I’ve used and provided what I believe is the best air purification system available for over ten years—ActivePure® Technology.

Originally developed for NASA and used aboard the International Space Station, in hospitals, schools, and homes, ActivePure transforms ordinary air and water vapor into safe, powerful molecules that actively clean the air and the surfaces in your home—without chemicals.

The most common feedback I hear from customers is: “The dust is gone!” Not only does this reduce your cleaning time, it greatly improves the quality of the air you breathe. As I like to say, “If you don’t use an air purifier, YOU are the air purifier.”

I’m so confident in this technology that, for qualified homes, I’ll place a system for you to try—no obligation—before you buy.

Mini-Split Installation for Garages, Casitas & Small Spaces

While I primarily focus on service and repair, I also enjoy installing energy-efficient mini-split systems—and have installed many right here in Arizona.

Mini-splits are ideal for garages, where summer heat can damage stored items, and they provide comfortable warmth during colder months. They’re also perfect for casitas, workshops, and other small spaces where extending your home’s central HVAC isn’t practical.

For DIYers, I also offer a professional startup service—a step most manufacturers require to maintain their warranty—so you can confidently complete your own installation.

Home Technologies I Use & Recommend

Install a Smart Thermostat

I was among the first installers of smart thermostats and have installed more than I can count. A question I hear all the time is: “What temperature should I set my thermostat to?” My answer is simple—set it to what feels comfortable. Some days 74 °F feels perfect, and on other days the same setting can feel too warm or too cool.

Instead of constantly getting up to adjust the thermostat, a smart Wi-Fi thermostat lets you control the temperature from your phone or voice assistant (Alexa or Google) without leaving the couch.

When you’re away, you can change settings from anywhere in the world to save energy and then reset them so your home is comfortable when you return. These thermostats can also send alerts if your home gets too hot or too cold, adding peace of mind while you travel.

Automate Your Lighting for Safety & Convenience

Front Door Lighting
Approaching our front door at night used to be dark and unsafe. If we forgot to turn on the lights, you could hardly see. By simply replacing the switch with a smart switch (about $16 on Amazon), our porch and driveway lights now turn on automatically at sunset and shut off at 10 p.m. We never have to think about it—and arriving home at night is always safe.

Smart Plugs for Lamps
A smart plug (about $12 on Amazon) turns any standard lamp into a smart light. You can schedule lights to turn on and off or control them remotely from your phone. This is especially useful when you’re away, since programmed lighting makes it look like someone is home.

Smart lighting is an easy, low-cost upgrade that adds comfort, safety, and peace of mind. Installing the switch above can be done by most DIYers, but if you need help Call 520-225-0060 or message me.

Smart Garage Door Control for Peace of Mind

How many times have you driven away and thought, “Did I close the garage door?” With a MyQ smart hub, I can simply check my phone. If it’s open, I press a button and it closes—no more turning around to double-check.

I’ve also set ours on a schedule to automatically close every night at 10 p.m. That way, even if I forget, I don’t wake up to find the door left open all night and valuables at risk.

You may already have this feature built into your opener—look for a WiFi symbol on the unit. If you do, just download the app and connect it to your opener. If not, an inexpensive add-on (about $30 on Amazon) can make almost any opener smart and give you the same convenience and security.

A smart garage door opener is a simple upgrade that delivers peace of mind, safety, and convenience every day.

Installing the MyQ smart hub can be done by most DIYers, but if you need help Call 520-225-0060 or message me.

Cleaner Laundry—No Detergent, No Hot Water

We’ve used the LaundryPro 2.0 with ActivePure® since 2017—and haven’t bought detergent in years. Our clothes, sheets, and towels come out fresh, clean, and free from harmful chemicals. Along the way, we’ve also saved thousands of dollars by eliminating the need for detergents and hot water.

LaundryPro 2.0 works by infusing cold water with hydrogen- and oxygen-based molecules that lift dirt and grime from fabric fibers. The result is brighter, cleaner laundry without the residue or irritation of soaps and chemicals.

Installation is quick and simple—it connects directly to your existing washing machine with no modifications or extra plumbing required.

Discover how LaundryPro can make your laundry safer, simpler, and more affordable. Call 520-225-0060 or message me to learn more.

Computer Tips

Use a Password Manager for Security & Peace of Mind

Like many people, I used to keep my passwords in a notebook and reused the same ones across different sites. That’s convenient—but risky.

Switching to a password manager gave me real peace of mind. Now I have:

  • Unique, strong passwords for every site

  • Access across all my devices

  • The ability to share securely with my wife

  • Only one master password to remember

Yes, it takes some effort at first to update your logins, but it’s absolutely worth it for the added security.

I started with LastPass, but now I use Bitwarden, which is highly rated, open-source, free for personal use, and can even be self-hosted on your own server.

A password manager is one of the easiest steps you can take to protect yourself online.

Advice When Replacing Your Router

Here’s a simple trick I learned years ago while installing smart thermostats. A customer would call saying their thermostat had stopped working—only to find out they had replaced their router. The problem wasn’t the thermostat, but the new router’s different WiFi name (SSID) and password.

When your router changes its SSID or password, every device in your home has to be reprogrammed to connect. If you have dozens of smart devices, like I do, that can take hours.

The easier solution? Log into your new router and change its WiFi name and password to match your old router’s settings. That way, all of your devices will recognize and connect to the new router automatically—no extra setup required.

Whether you’re switching internet providers or simply upgrading your router, this practice makes the transition much faster and hassle-free.
